The closure

Our last class..........

We were not going to be every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday again. We were not goint to pay RM1 if we were late anymore. We were not goint to act, sing and recite a poem anymore.

Everything that comes may end. And so we are.

Miss Zue, just so you know, I love your class even sometimes my face looked like I don't like it. It just my emotion are easily disturbed by the environment. I'm sorry if it hurts you. Thanks for being an awesome English lecturer.

I don't like and never like language before. Maybe because I am a Maths person?? Errrr. But you changed it a little. I manage to learn to love to learn language and I did it. I started to pay attention during grammar class and tried to apply it on my writing. Thank you!

Do you know why my persepsion on languange change? I used to think language is no fun and bias but now it is changed. I could now enjoy my language class :) Why? Because of Miss Zue's attractive ways of teaching.

keep it up miss! I know writing this blog is not such a fun at first and I don't think it got benefits writing it but now after I blogged, I realised that when we learnt, we tend to forget it after that but when we rewrite it after the class, we will remember 80% more.

Eventhough I wrote it during the end of the semester :/ (im being so honest. sorry miss)
but still I got the benefits. I tend to recall what I've learnt throughout this semester and yeahh finally I realised. It is one good way to teach Miss. Keep it up :) hehehee.

Suggestion? Hmmm I don't know. I think you should just remain the same style of teaching. It is cool :D

We enjoyed eating a lot of snacks that Miss Zue bought using the money that had been contributed by the late comers. Hahaha. Well food. JAC110A loves food so much! But I envy those who eat a lot and never gets fat! Grrr!

Pray for us for our final exam Miss Zue. <3 Lots of love from us. Thank you :) All the best for your life

Purpose and Tone :D

Miss Zue asked our class to print out past three semester final exam question. We need it in order to make us more familiar to the format of the paper and how the question will be like. Two of the questions ask about the purpose and tone so on this class we learnt about it :)

There are four purpose of the author in general :-

1) to entertain - the author tells something or someone in an interesting way like short story, novel or gossip article maybe???

2) to persuade - the author tries to change our opinion on any topic or issue by appealing our emotion. It usually comes in advertisement.

3) to instruct-the author will expalin or teach the readers on how to do something.  Usually teh author will provide knowledge to the reader through this purpose.

4) to describe - the author often describe to support other purposes in writing. they use it to create a character, set a mood or envision a scene.

Tone whereby is the uses of the word of the author or his/her styles of writing to demonstrate their idea towards the issue.

There are so many tones like sarcastic, cynical, optimistic, objective, pessimistic, bitter, mocking, compasionate and much more.

Okay this is all for this class. Pstt... Want to know what happen to our last class? Read my coming post :'( and.... we will be getting our quiz on the argumentative essay mark.

Pop my Berry oh my Pop Quiz with the passive voice

Hey hey hey. Last lecture's week :( So this post gonna be the third last post :(

During this class, Megat, Nina, Sue and Bella were given task to present something for us to learn on that day. We learnt about passive voice before we were doing our pop quiz. Got any idea on passive voice? No? Okay read futher, I'll tell you briefly about it and then you may google more information about it. I've inserted some links too :) and yeah, the pictures does help too :D

Read the text in the picture and now move to the next picture.....

still blur? Okay. Its because the top picture is not appropriate to explain how the active voice turns too passive voice. But the sentence is true okay.

Let me create a new example for you to understand okay? I give you a very simple and casual example to make you understand more easily. If you want to read more example, you may read it in the link that I will give later

Active Voice:

Baddrol(subject) loves(verb) Aireen(object)

Passive Voce:

Aireen(object) is loved(verb to be + past participle) by Baddrol(subject)

Okay now see the different??

For more details and knowledge, click this link http://votebits.com/uses-of-active-voice-passive-voice/ :)

After the presentation, we were having a pop quiz on argumentative essay but we did it in group. My groupmates? Who else? Hefa, Salina and Pony lah :) The first writer is Salina followed by Pony, me and Hefa. the closure are made by us all.

It was.... hmmm good. But I think because of the environment, which was when we were doing the essay some of us who were involved during writing the particular paragraph, they were chit chatting to each other. And we are the kepoh people also want to join the chit chat so the essay is not so good :( our bad.

When we were done with the essay, the class ended. Like any other days, PASAR MALAM timeeee! Hahahaahaha.

It is the same routine from the beginning of the semester until now :) Hihi okay thats all for now. Byeeeee

Friday 2 March 2012

Argue..............mentative..... Essay????

" Argue? Fight? What do you learn in UiTM Segamat? Do you learn to fight? Haa? "

Hey! Don't freak out. Read my tittle again. It is argumentative essay. I learn on how to write an argumantative essay not to argue or fight. Haha. Okay let's straight to the point. Argumentative essay, in my own words, it means like you write an essay to fight or argue with people than against your stand on one particular issue.

For example:

You are agree with a statement says 'we should go shopping alone' while another party is against it. Here is the function of arguemantative essay. You are allowed to give out your points to support you stand.

You got me?

Okay but due to the format for examination, our argumentative essay will be written like this.

5 paragraph of 350-400 words.

1st paragraph will be the Introduction.
2nd, 3rd and 4th will be the body paragraph where you can spill all your points :)
5th paragraph will be the conclusion.

Haaaa here I want to tell you abou the conclusion part. It will be a little bit different from any other essay's conclusion. In argumentative essay, the conclusion part needs to be included the refutation. It is needed to make your point more magnificient. When you refute the other opinion, people might think back and they might agree with you :)

Oh by the way, the mark is not based on how you could influence the examiner. You will be marked based on your language, content(how you presented your points) and your organization.

The most important part of this essay is...........

it going to be the question for partB in the final exam :3

Pray for me that I can't write using proper grammar and I am able to squeze my brain so that all the best ideas will come out :) hehehehe

Conclusion

"Give your conclusion for Paragraph 3" "What can you conclude from the second paragraph" ......

That are what might be asked during the final exam for the reading section. So on this day, we learnt on how to make a conclusion.

A conclusion should
  • stress the importance of the thesis statement,
  • give the essay a sense of completeness, and
  • leave a final impression on the reader.
So based on these suggestions on how to write a conclusion, the technic on how to make a conclusion is more vivid is not it?

Besides that, conclusion also usually answer the question 'WHAT?' Conclusion must be something that give an impact to the reader.

After about 1 hour and 5 minutes of lecture on how to make a conclusion, we moved to the activity! JAC1102A loves video!! Miss Zue knew it so she always give activity that relate to video. We watched some videos just like during the making inference activity but this time, we watched it until the end :D

There goes the application on what we had learnt..... We had to make a conclusion on the video :D

On of the videos is Bad Day by Daniel Powter. It is my favourite song everrrrr :)

Thanks Miss for a great class :)

simple past and past continous tense

Yeahhh. Group presentation again and again I'm going to let the expert to explain it to you. I'm just not confident to use my own words to explain. Don't worry, I've read the link before I gave it to you so, trust me :)

Simple Past Tense

the link :
http://iwanttobeagrammargoddess.blogspot.com/2011/04/simple-past-tense.html this link includes some notes about past continuous tense too :)
http://interactingwiththepastense.blogspot.com/2011/04/use-of-simple-past.html this link does not help much on the spelling but it does tell you about the uses of simple past tense :)

Past Continuous Tense

the link:
http://www.englishtenses.com/tenses/past_continuous
http://englishdailyworkout.blogspot.com/2011/03/past-continuous-tense-review.html

I think, the pictures do give you a looooottttt of information. For me, when it comes to this past tense, present tense, continuous tense, the problem is, when we have to use it. So now, the links are given. Just click :)

Predict, assume and conclude???

Inference means making a logical conclusion based on evidence which is assumed to be true. We learnt on making inference. Yeayy! We can interpret gossip more easily this time! Oupsss! I am just joking. Heheee :D

Okay okay lets go back to the serious part. Hoho. Making inference is important to make us more easy to understand the text. When we understand the text, to answer the question is not a problem.

For the practise part, we were going to watch some videos and Miss Zue will suddenly pause the video. Based on the clues given before Miss Zue paused the video, we need to infer what will happen next :)

We didn't win :'( so sad. Huhu. Nevermind, we will try again next time. Hehe :)

Till next post. Byeee :)

psssstt: Bruno Mars is soooooooo handsome. Don't you think so?? XD

Sorry guys. I'm afraid that I might give a wrong information and you might get confused :/ Sorryy

Lets judge an essay by it's introduction??

We were done with Speaking Test, Listening Test and Mid-term Test. Alhamdulillah. Now, we are going to focus on the final exam question paper which consists of reading and writing part. Writing part would be an essay of 350-400 words :S

Basicly, as we know, an essay will have the introduction, body(elaboration of the point) and conclusion. During high school, we were only focused on the body part but now, we will learn how to write an intro like an expert xD

An introduction should start with a hook to grab the reader's attention. Miss Zue tought us 7 types of hook which are:

1)Facts & statistics
2)Personal experience
3)Definition
4)Rhetorical question
5)Contrast to thesis statement
6)Current event
7)Quotation

After the hook, we need to write transition to move the reader to the more serious part which is the point. The last part of the introduction is the thesis statement to make contract with the reader. It does not have to be too specific. Relax. We still have a lot of paragraph to jot down our ideas :D Hihi.

Okay, I want to do the homework that Miss Zue gave us. Byebyeeee!! <3

Listening Test

Finally the day has come :) Errr should I smile? :| It was held on Friday after the MGT class. From 12pm till 1pm. Some of Miss Zue's friends students join the test.

Actually, we were among the latest who sat for the test. We should sit it on 2nd of February but because Nina, Bella, Din, Nolek,  Taufik and I were going for a camp, we did it on this day.

Alhamdulillah, I think I was doing well for the test. I hope the mark will be okay too :)

Speaking Test.

We were the second group to be tested for speaking part. We only need to come for our test only and during the other time the other group are tested, we could get some rest :)

Our topic is how to reduce the number of girl teenagers that involve in unhealthy diet. The point given to me is the consultancy of the parents on what their child purchasing on food. Yea again, I don't like my point. Huhu I really should be candidate C because I like Hefa's point which is the influence of teacher.

I was doing suck! T_____T sorry Miss!

Please pray for me :') Thank you!

We learnt a lottttt for today

Listening exercise again ...

We were doing the listening exercise again. This time I got better mark :) I've learnt from the mistakes I made during the last exercise. Hehee. I got 13/15. Quite good is not it? :P

After the exercise, it is time for another grammar presentation that discuss about Subject-Verb-Agreement and Adverbs by the Komander's group. It was great because......... we were awarded with food when we answered correctly for the game. Yippiiii! All the classmates wer so happy because... Yeah we are hungry monsterrrrrr! We love foooddd <3

Subject-Verb-Agreement tells you about how Subjects and Verbs must agree one another in number(singular or plural). In a simple word, singular subject must be with singular verb while plural subject must be with plural verb.

Singular?? Singular stands for 1 person while plural stands for more than 1 person like we, them, their. But there is a special case for You. We consider it as plural verb :) Don't get confuse!

For more information on subject-verb-agreement, click on this link :D
www.grammarbook.com/grammar/subjectVerbAgree.asp

Adverbs are words that modify verb, adjective and another adverb.

We have 5 kinds of adverbs which are adverbs of manner(answer the question how), adverbs of place(answer the question where), adverbs of time(answer the question when or how often), adverbs of degree(answer how much) and adverbs of frequency(answer the question how frequent or how often).

Conjunctive adverbs - connects the idea expressed in different sentence. The examples are however, futhermore, also, moreover, still and therefore.

For more information on adverbs, click on this link :D
www.englishclub.com/grammar/adverbs.htm

Okay that is all for this entry. I'll update more later okay. Oh yeahh. We are going to have speaking test next week

Speak baby speak

We were done with the listening practises and we moved on to the speaking practises :D Yeay still, the format is the same with BEL120 format.

The test need to be in group consist of four members. My groupmates are Pony, Hefa and Salina. We will be given two tasks which are:-
Task A- we need to elaborate our own point given.
Task B- we need to discuss which are the best point based on all the points of other group members too.

After Miss Zue described how the test will be done, four lucky students are selected to do the practises. I was selected T_______T another lucky students are Elya, Ezuwan and Megat. The topic that we got is benefits of online shopping.

I love Megat's point and I don't like mine T__T I knew I was suck for Task A but I felt I was doing a good job for Task B. Errr ???

I hope I will do better in the real Speaking Test which is...... next week.

Listen baby listen

Another on-going-assessment beside the test is listening test and speaking test. Both of it carry 15% of marks respectively. The format of the test most likely to be similar to BEL120 but yeah, up one level on it :D

So today, to prepare us with the test, Miss Zue gave us some practises. When we are doing any listening activities, we really need to lend our ears and pay 100% attention to it because if we missed one word, we might get the wrong info.

As my self practises, I listened to random English song and I wrote down the lyrics. After that, I checked whether the what I wrote is similar with what I actually heard.

psssss: another secret to prepare myself to this test is,,,, don't forget to remove your ear's wax xD

Thursdayyyyyyyyy

We had two classes for this day which are class at the noon and night class. For the noon class, we did our quiz and after we were done with the quiz, we were asked to mark the comprehension part so that Miss Zue will only has to mark the essay and we will get the result earlier.

For me, the test was tough. It was taken from a MUET test. No wonder. I got only 5/10 for the quiz. I think, I need to improve on the essay part. Errr comprehension too. Err okay both! Huhu :(

Our lecture are proceed with another grammar presentation. The first boy's group. They are going to present about adjectives and conjunction.

Adjectives is word that decribes noun or adding value to it.

For example:
Azhari is a tall boy.

The noun is Azhari and the adjective that describes Azhari is tall.

You got me?

Yeah?? You cool! *claps*

For more information, you may click this link www.writingcentre.uottawa.ca/hypergrammar/adjectve.html or this one www.grammaruntied.com/blog/?p=1413

Conjuction whereby means link to connect words, phrases and clauses.

For example:
I ate Nasi Lemak and fried bihun.

and in the word connect nasi lemak and fried bihun. It shows that I ate both :O example okay example.

For more information on conjuction, you may click this link www.writingcentre.uottawa.ca/hypergrammar/conjunct.html :)

Consultation and ...... TEST????

Why are we doing the same thing again and again?  Non Linear Essay again? Yes. We did it again. This kind of essay need skill on how to correlate the points and make assumptions so it needs a loooootttt of practise.

On this day, we had like a personal consultation on non linear essay. We came in group of 4 and met Miss Zue. We had the changes to ask whatever we wanted to ask that we might feel shy to ask during class.

It might seem like a small thing but it does give quite a big impact on me as my mark for section B is improved compare to the mark for the quiz :DD

After the consultation, I just knew that we need to correlate the point not just traslating the graph/pie chart/table or whatever it is given. The marks are given on the organisation, language and content.

Oranisation - how we write the essay and we organize it
Language - how we apply our grammar skills :D
Content - haaa, the most mark come from here. The examiner will see how you correlate the points and make assumption :)

The next day is the test :S

For me, non linear essay was a little bit, just a bit easier compared to the quiz. Alhamdulillah. May be I felt it was easier because Miss Zue had consulted me. Like I said, it does give a big impact on me.

By the way, the test going to carry 20% mark for the final result. What a big portion is not it? So I must do the best of the best for this test :)

Wish me all the best guys D:
